Robbers kill APC chieftain in Benue – APROKOPIKIN
As Benue State continues to witness an upsurge in criminal activities, gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers on Friday invaded Naka, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area and shot dead, the Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Terwase Gugu.
Sunday Telegraph learnt that the robbers stormed the area in a Gulf Car at about 7:45 pm and were shooting sporadically to scare away people, who scampered for their lives. It was gathered that during the operation, which lasted for over 35 minutes, the robbers proceeded to a kiosk located at Naka Roundabout, owned by one Mr. Iorwuese Agboughul, where they carted away huge sums of money and recharge cards.
The robbers, Sunday Telegraph learnt, had engaged Agboughul in a fisticuff, a development that attracted the deceased, who tried to rescue the kiosk owner, before one of the robbers shot him on his head. Information Officer of the local government, Mr. Francis Ugbede, told our correspondent that the robbers, escaped through the Naka-Taraku Road. He hinted that police during intensive raid, recovered the vehicle they used for the operation with items, including a receipt, which indicated the purchase of vehicle tyres and a number plate. Ugbede, however, denied that the killing was politically motivated.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed the incident, saying that the police are on the trail of the killers.
