Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, is refusing to make a commitment about the club’s stance on Chelsea loanee, Christian Atsu. The Ghanaian has recently been very important to Magpies’ cause and has helped them get automatic promotion to the Premier League for next season. They have the option to make the player’s move permanent for just £6.5 million, yet Benitez is not giving any assurances that they would activate that clause. The winger opened the scoring in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Friday night, and Benitez was asked if that performance was enough for the club to keep the player permanently. The Spanish manager responded with the fact that a single good performance cannot influence a club’s long term decision. According to him several of their players have performed well during the close of the season, and they would be making decisions on each player’s future based on their overall performance. The winger has been one of the club’s top contributors this season, making himself one of the fan’s favourites. He has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 34 appearances for them this season.
